Smart EV Charger Setup in Richmond Hill
A WiFi smart charger does everything a basic Level 2 unit does, then adds scheduling, energy tracking, and app control from your phone. In Richmond Hill that scheduling is what unlocks Ontario's cheapest overnight power.
The real win of a connected charger is timing. You set it to start charging once the ultra-low overnight rate kicks in, and your car fills up at the lowest price on the Alectra Utilities grid without you setting an alarm. The app also shows you exactly how much energy each session used, so you can see your home charging cost at a glance.
Households planning a second EV should ask about load-sharing models, since two smart chargers on one circuit can split the available power automatically and sometimes delay a panel upgrade. The reporting matters too: the app shows what each session cost, which makes the overnight savings visible on the Alectra bill instead of theoretical.
Your contractor should finish the setup before handover, not as homework for you: the unit paired to your WiFi, firmware updated, the schedule matched to your rate plan, and a live charge tested on your car. Detached garages on the deeper lots around Oak Ridges sometimes have weak signal, and if that is your place, your contractor can flag it and sort a fix so the features you paid for actually work.
A timer or app schedule controls when charging starts. It is different from an approved EV energy management system that monitors household demand. A Licensed Electrical Contractor confirms capacity, any required monitoring equipment and the allowed charging current.
